AYJAY
For Ayjay’s Headspace EP, I was responsible for the entire visual concept, from the cover artwork to animated promotional material and Spotify Canvas visuals. The EP featured three tracks—Wasteland, No Rules, and Leverage—all carrying a cold, detached, and introspective tone, which directly influenced the design direction.
The central idea for the cover was a mannequin head, chosen for its emotionless and sterile appearance, reinforcing the EP’s themes. Around the head, I incorporated rings of sans-serif text, wrapping like a band or halo. In the animated versions, these text rings spun around the head, reminiscent of dizzy cartoon stars. I also added a tracklist sticker, placed like those found on physical CD and vinyl packaging, reinforcing the connection to tangible music media.
To give the animations a distinct tactile feel, I printed all individual frames in low resolution, rescanned them, and then stitched them back together. This process introduced an organic, grungy texture, making the final videos and GIFs feel raw and handcrafted.
The result was a cohesive and dynamic visual identity that blended digital design with analog aesthetics, enhancing the EP’s moody atmosphere and creating a strong promotional presence.
