Dave, an esports team manager, approached me to design a set of promotional graphics for his “Looking for Team” (LFT) posts— a widely used format in the esports industry for professionals seeking new opportunities. Having no prior experience in esports, I first took time to understand the competitive gaming world and the role of a team manager, ensuring the visuals would be both authentic and impactful.
To create a personalized and standout design, I took a unique approach—bridging Dave’s personal interests outside of esports with the high-energy, digital-first nature of gaming. Through a brainstorming session, we explored different visual directions before refining the final concept.
The design leaned into a bold, typographic style, featuring skewed and perspectively transformed sans-serif eye-catchers, paired with an old-school VHS monospaced font to subtly reference the pixelated aesthetics of early gaming culture. To further differentiate Dave from the competition, we made the ads feel like physical posters placed in the real world, using mockups and textures to break away from the entirely digital landscape of esports.
The result was a striking and unconventional promotional campaign that stood out in the fast-paced esports job market, helping Dave present himself as a strong candidate for new team management opportunities.
